Course Description
Language has great importance in the dialogue and understanding between tourists and tourist facilities. This course is for teaching English to people who will work in the tourist industry, for example: hotel employees, travel agents, tour guides, airport officials, etc.
English for Tourism course teaches basic communication skills needed to communicate in a variety of work situations in tourism industries. English for Tourism is a practical course that will help you improve your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, while also improving your vocabulary and grammar. There is a strong emphasis on speaking, and throughout the course, participants collaborate to complete tasks that will allow them to build the confidence and skills required to communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
The course will cover topics such as greeting and receiving guests, dealing with guests’ requests, problems and complaints, offering help and advice, describing hotel facilities, describing functions and purposes, giving directions, bill settlement etc.
This course is intended to provide students in the tourism and hotel industry with materials and lesson plans that can be utilized in the classroom. Sample dialogues are also included that students may use as models. In addition, the lessons include role-play activities so students can practice using the language in situations they are likely to encounter when on the job. Games, other activities and exercises are included to provide the students with more opportunities to practice and use the language in the context of specific course topics.
Duration
The course runs for 7 consecutive weeks and consists of 6 hours of workshops per week (36 contact hours in total).
During this course, trainees will be able to:
- develop and use language skills in a business context.
- work on case studies.
- practice business writing for reports, emails and letters.
- learn and develop business skills such as meetings, negotiations and presentations.
